Nikki was quite happy about the upcoming ball. She had already bought herself the loveliest dress(and spent a fortune, but it didn't matter to her as long as she looked her best. No, the best. Now Nikki only required a date. She hoped to go with a handsome Slytherin. But since the former was more important than the latter. she'd go with a handsome Ravenclaw as well. Just not a Hufflepuff or a Gryffindor.
The guy had to ask first, she decided. If nobody did, then she'd go date-hunting. So, she dropped next to the lake, dipping her feet into the cool water. She was wearing a short skirt and the upper part of her pink bikini.

Aaron was bored. Dead bored [when did I become so British?] So, as is the common with all bored people, the Ravenclaw had gone outside in search of some amusement. Even Professor Dumbledor's proclamation that a ball was coming up didn't really have an effect on Aaron - he could remember thinking hmmm... I'll need to find a date or otherwise be launched upon by a gaggle of girls. And that was it. A few of them had been looking expectantly, at least, the ones who were not in his House. Fellow Ravenclaws knew that the 6th year would get around to it when he got around to it.
Strolling along the Hogwarts grounds, thumbs in pockets and mild expression on his face, Aaron caught sight of one little lady [haven't lost all of my American touch] sitting on the edge of the bank, perhaps sunning herself? The ways of girls were beyond him. Anywho, without the uniform on Aaron didn't know which house she was in - didn't really care either. Wasn't in Ravenclaw, thats for sure. It would probably be likewise as difficult to guess his house - after all, Aaron was only wearing a casual t-shirt and jeans.
Approaching her [why on earth?!], Aaron sat down on the short grass, still tall even when seated. Genially he drew one leg up, resting his right forearm on it. All very casual. Gaze swept across the lake, quite pretty really. The relaxing atmosphere seemed to have some sort of effect on Aaron, for it was a pleasant, [almost] lazy greeting that come out.
'Lo.

Nikki turned around to see a guy. He was quite attractive, she noticed. As he greeted her, she nodded her head, throwing back her curly, blond hair.
"Hey."

Might as well get this over and done with - but not too fast. Mustn't seem desperate, even if I'm not.
I don't think I've seen you around. I'm Aaron.
Reaching over with his left hand, the Ravenclaw offered it to the pretty girl - for indeed she was, and seemed to know it as she flipped her long hair back. How on Earth does one stay so tanned during the year? Aaron himself was not that pale, but that came from genes, so to speak. Now Aaron didn't look at the lovely surroundings - it would be very weird to talk to someone without looking at them.

"I'm Nikki."
She just said, taking his hand. She couldn't help but ask the inevitable question;
"What house are you in?"
She hoped he wasn't Hufflepuff or Gryffindor.

Nice name, Nikki. I wonder... asking about Houses - perhaps Slytherin? They seem to care a lot about those. But like his previous thoughts before, what house anyone was in didn't really concern Aaron. All they had to do was respect [or at least not have a grudge against] Ravenclaw. Half-smile forming on his lips as he shook her hand and released it, Aaron answered her inquiry.
Ravenclaw. How 'bout yourself?
Well this could certainly take a while. But then again, it was nice having a proper conversation with someone in a very long time.

"Slytherin." She said calmly, before turning her head away and looking at the lake. Ravenclaw. That was cool with her.
"How comes you're here talking to me?" She asked bluntly .

Unlike some people, Aaron liked surprises. Especially ones displayed during conversation - who knows what twists might lead out of there? Therefore, with Nikki's sudden change of topic, the 6th year's rakish smile grew slightly wider, suitable for his rugged features.
Plenty of reasons, none of which you should be offended by. I've been pursued - very discreetly, mind you - by a bunch of giggling girls that could possibly be Hufflepuffs or Gryffindors. Look, there they are right now.
Aaron interrupted his reasoning to point to about four girls who had just stopped their giggling and staring to take cover behind some trees.
Anyway, I have been quite bored as of late, and so I thought talking to someone would be nice. You yourself looked a little lonely, or perhaps that was my imagination. Theres also the fact that any sane guy would want to talk to you too as well.
The ending was finished off with a flourish, that being Aaron's grand finale.
I also wanted to know if you would like to go to the ball with me.

As she listened to Aaron, Nikki's eyebrows went higher and higher up. A smile curved her full lips. Very stuck up, he was. Girls following him...not that she usually minded that trait. When he asked her to go to the ball with him, Nikki's smile became even wider.
"Well, sorry, but...no thank you." She paused for his reaction, then continued,
"I was meaning to ask Severus Snape. Or wait for him to ask me. I'm sure he'll say yes, since he is...as you said...sane. " Here she grinned, "But if you want, you can be my spare date."

Rebuffed, Aaron still kept on grinning. Shoulda seen this coming, from a Slytherin. Not that Aaron had any problems with her refusal - well, maybe just a little. But there was still a school full of other lasses, one of which might just say yes. Shrugging, Aaron gave a simple reaction to her plaintive 'no'.
Cool. It just seemed like such a good ending, though. Now I have to think of another one.
Raising an eyebrow at her offer, Aaron's bemused hazel eyes regarded her for a second before answering.
Not to be rude or anything, Nikki, but going as your spare date is not on my list of things to do.
Smiling, the Ravenclaw did hope that she had been joking with her offer - if not, then he might have to be insulted. Interesting thought.

Nikki just laughed.
"Sure. Enjoy your time with Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors." She winced as she mentioned them, "My condolences."
So he wouldn't be her spare date? Sure not. Nobody would be a spare date. Did he see what she said as a joke, though?
"I thought you wouldn't want to be my spare date." Another smirk, "I see that you aren't smart. How comes you are in Ravenclaw?"

Plastering a woeful expression on his face, Aaron responded with all of the drama of an actor.
Alas, I do not know! Perhaps the Sorting Hat was befuddled by my utter charmingness and was fooled into thinking Ravenclaw was the place for me.
Shaking his head as if this had been a lifelong sore point with him, Aaron continued.
Had I but known what I could do... then maybe I would have ordered it to place me in another House. Do you know that we have to answer a rather difficult question or riddle if we want to get into our own common room?!
With that Aaron gave a theatrical sigh, the only thought brushing his [actually rather intelligent] mind was hope she didn't take any of that seriously...

There were two options here. Either he was very retard and crazy, or he was joking. Since she wouldn't want to be seen talking to retards, she decided to take it as a joke. She laughed.
"Hey, you don't know how relieved I was when I was sorted into Slytherin. I would die if they put me into Hufflepuff..."

Inwardly Aaron shuddered - while he did not mind the Hufflepuff house, it definitely was not the place for him. Smooth Aaron... drawing the topic away from awkwardness with a bloody show. Aaron's smile returned to normal, no longer the mock sad pose it had held only a few minutes before. Now Aaron too was wondering what Nikki was doing out here, but doing so would mean recalling the previous train of thought - ah well. Its not like it was the end of the world.
So what are you doing out here?
Briefly the Ravenclaw wondered if she really had been out here sunning herself... quickly he dismissed the thought as absurd. Must be a better reason. Maybe even waiting for that Severus guy... in which case, Aaron might just have to remove himself - there really were only two days until the ball.

Nikki chuckled.
"Well, actually, I'm waiting to see how many guys will ask me to the ball so I can turn them all down."
Her tone was mocking, and it was intended as a joke.
