The Great Hall at dinner... lets just say that its hard to hear yourself think during that time. Nevertheless, Kristen always found herself looking forward to the evening meal. Dinner had been absolutely lovely, with thick pumpkin soup, soft white bread and a delicious roast. Kirsten had also helped herself to plenty of the Mediterranean salad, savoring the fresh olive oil drizzled over the feta cheese, ripe lettuce and thin slices of tomato. And now, the final course - the unmatched dessert.
As magically as the dinner had appeared, it vanished and was replaced by all sorts of puddings, cakes and sweets. Eagerly Kirsten selected a dish she had found to be quite pleasant the year before - thick chocolate pound cake with a rich layer of vanilla frosting. Kirsten only took a thin slice, but that was still more than enough. Slowing eating her treat so as to preserve all flavor, the Hufflepuff was quite shocked when, out of the blue, a flying chunk of something hit the back her left shoulder soundly.
Whirling around [or, at least as much as one could while still seated], Kirsten heard rambunctious laughing from behind, but couldn't quite place it as she scanned the crowd with a mixture of hurt and confusion.

Serena was seated at the Gryffindor table and heard laughter and seen someone with a confused and hurt look on there face. She then found the sorce at the Slytherin table. She then stood and walked over to the Hufflepuff and said, "Don't worry about them. They're inmature slytherins."

Hmmm... wait. What? Oh. Of course it was the Slytherins. Probably pay-back for walking past one of them in the library. And what another surprise! Serena Carter, the girl that she and Lily had met up with in the library's aisles. I never did introduce myself... or did I? Hastily brushing the offending dessert off her shoulder - it was similar to the rock cakes Hagrid made - Kirsten smiled and thanked the other for showing such consideration. As an added bonus, as soon as Serena had walked over the Slytherins had fallen silent. Nice.
Thanks for the help. I'm Kirsten.
It was still a little awkward for Kirsten, craning her neck up look the ebony-haired girl. 'Course, she didn't exactly have to tilt her head that far up - Serena was short. Even shorter than her. Whoah... But the seat next to her had just been vacated - dishes were starting to disappear from the long table too.
Would you like to grab something before it vanishes?
Kirsten felt guilty for drawing the Gryffindor away from her meal and tried to make up for it. Still, she wouldn't insist if the elder one decided join those leaving the Hall.

Serena shook her head and said, "No thank you. I don't eat much unless I really want to. Which is when I am bored." She then tucked her black hair behind her ears and seen a few Slytherins and said, "I think you should aplogize." When they started laughing Serena went forward and punched one in the stomach causing him the lean forward and cough.

Saorise sped up the length of the table, doing just what Kristen had said.. grabbing all she could before the mountains of sweets disappeared into the kitchens. Ofcourse she could always sneak into them, and grab a good feast for herself... but she had better things to do then tickle a pear, and this served as a good QUidditch warm up anyway.
So Saorise continued, cluthing her overflowing plate as she nearly ran into the two, Gryffindor and Hufflepuff. Stumbling backwards some creme from a custard balancing near the edge of the plate smeared onto her blue tie. "Er... hello... got a big potions essay..need the sugar." said Saorise with a laugh as the tips of her ears turned scarlet. "Hope I didn't interrupt something...?"

Serena then said, "Nope you didn't just teaching some Slytherins a lesson." She then gave a small smile.

Saorise's attention was then diverted to the Slytherin boy still clutching his stomach, and groaning in pain. "Ah... I see... bad idea to get on your wrong side eh?" said Saorise with a laugh as she extended her hand. "Name's Saorise Maghee... and the girl that just delivered that brillliant right hook is?" asked Saorise with raised eyebrows, and still wearing a grin.

Well. It seems wherever I go people pop out of nowhere. Inwardly Kirsten laughed at the ridiculous attempt at vanity - no doubt one of the Slytherins could have pulled it off better. The girl who had juts rushed up was wearing the Ravenclaw colors, so that explained her house. When Serena socked the offending Slytherin she stood up - violence really didn't appeal to her. But now the whimpering Slytherin and his cronies had crept off with the distraction of Serena, and Kirsten felt a desire to go and apologize. But then she remembered the pain of the rock-cake hitting her shoulder and turned away.
First she'd let Serena introduce herself, give her own name to Saorise [interesting name], perhaps make some polite talk and then be on her way. However, some inwardly gut feeling told her that something was going on outside that she really wouldn't like.

Saorise grinned slightly nervously not knowing wheter to take Serena's words as a joke or threat. "Good side it is then." said Saorise with a hint of sarcasm as she turned her attention to the Hufflepuff next to Serena. "Pumpkin Pasty?" she offered holding out her tray, as a sort of apology for nearly crashing into them.
"I'm guess you hear my name, but if not it's Saorise." Thrusting her right hand in Kirsten's direction Saorise smiled.

Thank you, but I'm fine. Pound cake is more than enough when it comes to desserts.
Kirsten gave a little mock shudder, as if to be warding off some evil chocolate spirits.
I'm Kirsten. Lovely to meet you.
Shaking the proffered hand, Kirsten smiled genially towards the Ravenclaw. 'Lovely to meet you' had become Kirsten's trademark at around the end of her third year, and it would be breaking a heartfelt tradition if she instead went with the standard 'nice to meet you.' Yep. Just those little things that made Kirsten unique, just as Serena's unhesitant defense from those who laughed made her stand out in her own little way. And Saorise - who knows? Just gotta wait and find out.
Hmm. Never did like rock cake much.
Kirsten's reference to the offensive dessert was spoken lightheartedly, inviting all sorts of conversation to play into action.

Saorise withdrew the tray and bit into a chocolate chip cookie. "Ah yes pound cake, definetly feels like a pound once it hits your stomach... the elves did overkill with the cream this time." said Saorise eyeing a piece she had infront of her. "I'll eat this before you get too tempted.", replied Saorise to Kirsten's shudder, grinning as she plopped about half of it into her mouth.
Still chewing on the cake Saorise doubled over laughing, while battling to keep what was in her mouth...in her mouth. Clearing her throat Saorise's blue eyes looked watery. 'Don't think he'll be throwing rock cakes for a while... or going near one for that matter."

Serena then said, "Pound cake doesn't put a pound on me. I'm to tiny. 5 feet tall and 85 pounds." She shook her head and said, "Why must I be short, why?! Curse the shortness. Curse my fun size."

At Serena's woeful outburst, Kirsten's face registered only astonishment. Only eighty-five bloody pounds?! It's a wonder she's even able to do anything! Kirsten was now able to figure out Serena's normal style - the layers were probably as much as [if not more] for warmth as for appearance! Well, that explained a lot. But still... the lovely lady who lived just down Kirsten's street in London couldn't be more than five feet herself, and she had once remarked that she was slightly underweight at around 98 pounds.
My dear, you seriously should consider drinking milk and eating protein. I can't be more than half a head taller than you and I'm a hundred pounds and still skinny.
Tsk tsk tsk. Kirsten didn't go too far into the protective mode - after all, she had just seen a Slytherin doubled over from Serena's punch. Vaguely she wondered what was going through Saorise's mind, this was quite unexpected. But wasn't Hogwarts full of surprises like this? But one thing is for sure - things are truly not normal in this magical little school... from rock-cakes to evil librarians... always a surprise.
